Common questions

Why do I see the same stories as everyone else?
That’s the point. There’s no personalization and no algorithm guessing what you want. Stories covered widely and across the political spectrum lead the feed.

Where do the headlines and summaries come from?
From each publisher’s own news feed, quoted and credited. Nothing is generated or rewritten. Tap “Read full article” to read the story on the publisher’s website.

How often is the news updated?
About every 15 minutes. Pull down on the front page, or tap “Updated … ↻” at the top, to check right away.

I’m not getting notifications.
Notifications need iCloud: check you’re signed in under Settings → [your name]. Then open The Paper Route → Settings → Notifications and make sure they’re allowed and switched on. Story updates only arrive for stories you follow. Quiet hours follow your iPhone’s Focus and Sleep settings.

An article asks me to subscribe.
Some publishers have paywalls. Turn on Settings → “Prefer free sources” and The Paper Route will open an outlet you can read for free whenever one is covering the story.

How do I follow a story?
Tap Follow on a story, or swipe right on it in the list. Followed stories collect their updates in the Following tab.

Where do the left / center / right ratings come from?
They’re AllSides Media Bias Ratings™, licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0, and describe each outlet’s news coverage overall, not individual articles.

What data do you collect?
None. See our privacy policy.
